Accelerated Reading Program

Accelerated Reader is one part of our Balanced Literacy Program. This computer based program tests comprehension after a student reads a book on his/her recreational reading level. The AR program motivates students to read and encourages a life-long love of reading

Awards Program

Each May students in Kindergarten through 5th grade are recognized for their accomplishments in academics as well as non-academic and extracurricular areas.

Books for Breakfast

Books for Breakfast - Never a dull moment at UPE! Students have the opportunity to enjoy books from the minute they walk in the door. Books are provided at the breakfast tables for students to read if they choose.

Canned Food Drive

UPE students worked with the Greene County Food Bank to collect food and other essentials for families in need. Yearly we collect items estimated at 900+ That's enough to fill the bed of a small pickup truck and a station wagon!

Character Education

UPE students have instruction in character education to become better students and citizens. Students receive direct instruction through the implementation of Second Step, a program taught by our counselor, Mrs. Kilgore.  Second Step gives students a variety of strategies to deal with the issues in their lives.

Field Day

The highlight of many UPE students’ school year is the annual field day, which occurs in May.  Organized by the physical education department, field day offers a half day of challenge, exercise and fun.  With an emphasis on teamwork and sportsmanship, field day brings out the best in everyone!

Grandparents Day

UPE loves its grandparents, and in observance of National Grandparents Day all grandparents are invited to visit the school and have lunch with students. Last year over 150 grandparents had the chance to visit and made plenty of children grin from ear to ear.

Some “grands” were even caught posing for the camera with their grandchildren, which gave them a wonderful keepsake for years to the chance to visit and made plenty of children grin from ear to ear.

Greene County High School has a homecoming parade each fall and Union Point Elementary takes part in a grand way.  Using creativity to join in the festivities, teachers and students design a float to show their “tiger pride”.  Exemplary students are chosen to represent their classrooms on the float each year

Parent Meals

Parent lunches are a special time for parents to come and enjoy lunch with their child(ren) at UPE.  While parents are welcome at any time to eat with their child in the cafeteria, these special days allow us to show parents how much they mean to us.

Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week is celebrated nationwide the last week of October. Red Ribbon Week promotes a drug-free lifestyle for all students and gives students information and strategies to stay drug free.  At UPE we decorate with Red Ribbons, wear Red Ribbons, celebrate with theme days, videos, and presentations in P.E. and on our newscast. It's our special time to pledge that “Real Life Is Drug Free.

Read Across America

Every March students at UPE celebrate Read Across America with students from all over the United States. Volunteers from all over the community come in to share their love of reading. UPE students learn early that reading provides a lifetime of pleasure and that people read for pleasure no matter how old they are! Oh, the places we can go with a good book!

UPE News

The WUPE News is produced live every morning from the news studio in the school. Students and teachers tune in to the news for the latest in happenings, trivia, book talks and recognitions.   Written, produced and directed entirely by UPE students, the news broadcasts are spearheaded by the TARGET students.  Students rotate through the jobs in the newsroom from cameraperson to anchor to reporter. Ending each newscast is the school motto, “Have a pleasant and productive day at Union Point Elementary School - the school that begins with U!

Veterans Day

November is the time of year when students take time to honor and remember those who have served our country.

Our Veterans Day program gives students an opportunity to learn more about the sacrifices made by Veterans and to honor specifically the Veterans in Greene County

Union Point Elementary School has wonderful volunteers that help with everything from reading with a student to building a parade float.  Parents and local community members help whenever there is a need and the faculty and staff are extremely grateful.
Thank you to all who have volunteered, we couldn't do it without your help and support.

The mission of Union Point STEAM Academy is to sustain a culture of high expectations that connects students, parents, and team members to a shared purpose of educating our students in an academically challenging environment, which emphasizes the joy of learning on a daily basis and promotes growth and achievement.
